1.Magnetic Attractions
-Separate magnetic materials from non-magnetic materials.
E.g. Food processing
Metals may accidentally get into food that we eat nad magnet can be used to detect and
remove the metal contaminants along the processing line.

Salvage scrap iron and steel
Iron and steel can be recycled.Hence, to save earth,iron and steel are recycled and strong
magnets are used.

2.Filtration
-separate insoluble(cannot dissolve in water) solid from the liquid in a liquid-solid solution.
-The insoluble solid left on the filter paper is called the residue while the liquid that passes through the filter paper is called the filtrate.
E.g. Vacuum Cleaners
Coffee Makers
Water treatment

3.Evaporation
-separate a dissolved solid from a liquid.
-the dissolved solid must be stable to heat and not decompose.
The solid that is left on the eveporationg dish is called the residue.

4.Distilltion
-separate a pure liquid from solid-liquid or liquid-liquid mixture.
-the process of Distillation includes boiling and condensation.
The pure liquid that is collected is called the distillate.
E.g. make perfumes

5.Fractional Distillation
-separate crude oil into useful products such as petrol,diesel and kerosine.

6.Paper Chromatography
-separate small amounts of mixtures.
E.g. find dyes used in inks
find dyes used in food
